UCHealth Notice of Nondiscrimination Lacks CART as a Service to People with Disability

by Shastar, about 1 month ago

I would appreciate it if you could correct UCH Civil Rights that they are missing Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) as an effective communication service for people with hearing loss who do not know sign language. Not all people with hearing loss know sign language but need captions.

The notice they sent me is misleading if CART is not provided. Please help me reach them. I emailed them and they did not reply. I wrote them on Nov. 6, 2024.

Mandatory Order that went into effect yesterday- should also apply to HOA's, DORA

by Jenn K-C, about 2 months ago

Mandatory Order from DOJ to State of Colorado concerning ADA, Olmstead, and people at risk of losing their community living rights! This should also apply to DORA/ Task Force and HOA's who "force" seniors and people with disabilities and others of a protected class from their homes and community living resources, especially through illegal means being used by magistrates and muni courts, to "confiscate" properties by claiming unpaid dues/fees and outrageous attorney fees.

Curbs at "Accessible" Vault Toilets - Outdoor Recreation

by Rob Gilkerson, about 2 months ago

Hello, I'm Rob Gilkerson from Canon City - an ADA consultant for the last 30 + years. Soon after the ADA was first signed into law, I was hired by the Arapaho/Roosevelt National Forest, and then the White River National Forests. My job at each Forest was to survey all of the front country facilities for accessibility (Visitor Centers, Campgrounds, Picnic Areas, & Trail Heads). The number one issue at most sites, was the lack off access to their SST vault toilets - either a curb, no path of travel, and/or the vault toilet being located on a hill. I... Continue reading

A State HOA Office for Homeowners - With Accountability

by Wendy Vernon, Founder CO HOA Reform, about 2 months ago
A state HOA office for Homeowners to take their concerns, and address those concerns, directly, with systems of accountability, instead of just filling out a report, filing the complaint, and then compiling all similar complaints into an annual report presented once a year. Homeowners need timely results, not more research data. A State HOA Office with teeth is the only way to uphold the constitutional rights of homeowners in Colorado. The current administrative methodology toward homeowner concerns has been relegated to contract law and therefore completely bypasses our constitutional rights, drowning it in "forever" litigation. This is why when concerns... Continue reading

The Functionally-Challenged Also Deserve Civil Rights Protection

by KinniK, about 2 months ago

Too often, those of us with functional challenges fall in the cracks between pigeon holes.

For example, I've often had to go without medical treatment, due to my disability income being slightly too high to qualify for Medicaid. Also, I've been (and presently still am) being harassed, and taken advantage of, due to neerdowell-underlings in local government, deliberately capitalizing on their knowledge of my limitations. It is SHAMEFUL what some will do, when they are confident they can get away with abuse!

Access to legal and Public Defender support, should be available to the disabled, similar for example, to what... Continue reading

First I would like to say thank you for this opportunity to voice my concerns that have effected me as a person with disabilities.

Second, I'm full of experiences from not only being a person of disabilities but have a lot of lived experiences in dealing with housing rights on section 8 and dealing with Corporation land private landlord, being harassed by landlords and my VAWA rights being violated along with discrimination and violation of Civil Rights as a person with disabilities, bring disabled and living and ongoing family violence in hiding, a Paralegal online student with disabilities and... County Commission Claire Levy did not accommodate my hearing needs

by Kathy A, about 2 months ago
I emailed Commissioner Levy and requested accommodations for the hard of hearing at her May 18, 2023 Town Hall since I have severe hearing loss and wanted to attend her meeting. She wrote me back that the location of the Town Hall meeting was not a county facility so she doubted it had a hearing loop. I emailed back, asking her to ensure that her next Town Hall have a hearing loop so I could attend. She wrote me back saying "The ADA doesn't require county commissioners to limit our activities to places that can accommodate people with disabilities." So... Continue reading

    HOA Laws

by Janet Fennern, 2 months ago
I am writing this knowing it will be ignored. Here are my concerns, you give all the power to HOA boards, and the owners, and taxpayers, have none. My answer from you is always, hire an attorney. An unacceptable answer. I have filled a complaint about my board and never any reasonable solution. Dora is paid by the state, this is disappointing, waste of money.

I have listened to the zoom meetings and nothing is accomplished.

    Thank you, Janet Fennern

    scared for daughter's future

    by Worried, 2 months ago
I am a single mom of a daughter with multiple disabilities. I worry that her family may not step in and take care of her when I die. We must rely on public resources and the community to help. She is not able to take care of herself or live by herself. The housing and care options that exist today are dismal due to lack of funding. My daughter would love to have a job, a place to live, friends to talk to and a community to thrive in. I hope that the existing lack of options is rectified in... Continue reading
