The Colorado General Assembly recently passed HB23-1296 that created a task force to study rights for persons with disabilities.

The purpose of the rewrite subcommittee is to study the current Colorado Revised Statutes concerning the civil rights of persons with disabilities and make recommendations for a thorough revision and rewrite to improve clarity, ensure the civil rights of Coloradans are protected, and ensure the protections are enforceable.

As an Autistic person who is currently going through the job application process, it pains me to think I might be discriminated against because I didn’t meet some normative expectation or some expectation that is unfair to everyone but especially to Autistic and other neurodivergent people.

I think the Civil Rights Division should take the time to look at common hiring expectations for each industry and determine which ones disproportionately impact neurodivergent candidates, and then publish an advisory(ies) on its findings.
