Shutdown appeared punitive, badly managed, and solely profit oriented.
- Xcel appears to have managed this shutdown ”by the seat of their pants” to the uncaring detriment of their customers.
- Xcel’s sudden interest in wildfire mitigation is profit-oriented and nothing else --- to the detriment of customers. SoCalEdison started regular preemptive shutdowns after successfully being sued for $80 million for the Bobcat Fire. This preemptive shutdown appears to be a direct result of the Marshall fire and subsequent lawsuit(s).
- Shutdown length was excessive in our location. Our shutdown started hours before the winds really kicked up and lasted far too long through most of Sunday daylight hours when our winds were not dangerous. My elderly wife and I rode our bikes outside early Sunday morning.
- Information about the time of power restoration was nonexistent. When texting “STAT” the response was repeatedly “assessing damage.” Late Sunday afternoon the power just magically came back on.
- Advance information about the potential length of the outage was vague (“at least until noon Sunday”) so we didn’t know what steps to take to preserve our refrigerated food.
- Maps of affected areas in northwest Fort Collins were inaccurate and severely underestimated the area affected. Our home was never covered by the affected area maps and is at least a mile away. As a result we weren’t even sure if Xcel was working to restore our power because we did not appear to be on their “radar screen.”
- Xcel appeared to be totally uncaring about the negative impacts on older people and those with physical ailments. Not our problem…Deal with it.…appeared to be their attitude: maximizing profit with no customer consideration.
- We need information on how often Xcel is going to do this kind of thing. Do I need to buy a generator and transfer switch??? Some people can’t afford it. Xcel should offer rebates for customers to purchase backup power if they are not going to be reliable!
- They are a MONOPOLY. We have no alternative. They appear to be abusing their “power“ and State and particularly Larimer County authorities appear unable to manage this huge corporation.
- Xcel is making no effort to protect their above ground power lines. They refused to bury the power lines on north Taft Hill when the road was widened several years ago according to a County engineer. I wish I lived within Fort Collins where power is managed responsibly.
