Please fix weak spots
I live in a neighborhood where we experience a lot of power dips as soon as it is even a little bit windy - we can tell because our UPSes switch on when this happens, which is audible, and because things like oven clocks reset themselves. Because of the changed settings on this particular weekend where the power would not automatically reset if there was a dip, it shut off before 6am on Saturday morning when there was a bit of gusty wind (nothing extraordinary for where we live, and not particularly strong at all). We spend the morning (which was otherwise windless!) and afternoon hoping it would be turned on again, which is wasn't, until the notification that the power would be turned off preventatively. This lengthened our shut-off with a good ten hours, the first part of which would have been preventable if whatever weak spot that causes the continuous disturbances in power would not have been there in the first place. So, Xcel: please fix weak spots so people don't have to put up with needless power outages. Even better would be to bury the lines so we can be done with these types of events altogether.
Also: please do a better job communicating than the boilerplate messages that went out. Nobody has any use for instructions on 'how to prepare' (have a manual can opener? really?) but would be helped by actual information on what to expect. Even if Xcel themselves don't know this, they could have provided information about types of damage, average repair times, and so on. The worst thing, which didn't affect us personally, but we found when we googled for information (and found more that was provided to us!) is that even the hospital in Boulder did not get any useful responses to questions regarding the length of the power outage. The hospital!! If there is any place where you'd think you make special considerations for, that would be it!
Thank you for your contribution!
