We live in an area that's been impacted by trees hitting power lines in the wind and starting a fire, so I was fine with the concept of preemptive shutoffs. HOWEVER we were unable to communicate with the people at our home in time to take steps to prepare for the outage which we learned about on news websites. No texts, calls, or emails from Xcel to warn us of the situation. Even though I contacted the house sitter as soon as I learned of the potential situation, the power was out before they could do anything. Since we're on a well and run a business, there are very specific steps which must be taken to maintain communications (at least) and backup power (at best). We were getting photos of the items to be set up for power outage and having to communicate when the house sitter was within cell range away from the house. They had no time to fill the tubs for flushing water. The power was taken down BEFORE THE WIND STARTED so we assume it was preventative. I was getting multiple texts from Xcel after the power went out that promised restoration but it didn't happen for 2 days. After power was restored I continued to get messages that power was out, even though it wasn't. A very stressful mess. ZERO ACCURATE COMMUNICATIONS. All of it was too little too late. We've had this kind of situation from Xcel before, which created such a mess PUC got involved, but it seems no lessons have been learned and no corrections made.
